About Me

I first began writing computer programs at the tender age of 10 years old, for those of you who are of a certain age, it all started with the Commodore Vic 20. My first full program was nothing more that a snooker scoreboard, which I used when my father and I played on my 3 foot table.

Through my teenage years I worked my way through an Amstrad PCW, Amiga 500, Amiga 1200 and eventually a PC. This is where I really began to experiment with more powerful languages. I began writing Visual Basic programs in much the same way as I had on the Vic 20, get a book full of code, type it in and then manipulate it to do what I wanted. After dumping MS Access for the faster and more reliable MySQL, I began to produce more efficient and powerful programs.

Initially I worked in the accounts industry, but after realising that it was not for me I began working in IT for a communications company. This allowed me to gain a lot of knowledge within the industry, but it became apparent that desktop based development was tiresome and Web Development was the way forward. As I’m sure you are aware now ‘The Cloud’ is all the rage, and essentially signals the transfer of computing from the desktop to the web. It is at this point I embarked upon the task of learning about CSS and adding PHP to my HTML and MySQL knowledge. After I acquired a good working knowledge of those I added the thoroughbred that is jQuery to my stable of skills.

Websites are an essential part of your business, and having one that looks good and works well can make all the difference. There are many people out there who can stick together a website made in WordPress, and generally they look good and work well, but Wordpress is a template service, and whilst your website may look the part, there will be another dozen websites out there that look just the same. I try to create something unique, it may not be ground breaking, but it will be to your specifications, your own corner of the web.

Having a website in itself is not good enough, you need people to be able to see it, so I employ certain SEO techniques to help you along. I’m realistic with what can be achieved, and can help you utilise Social Media to promote your company. If you don’t make use of all the channels open to you, then your competitors will. If you would like to know why an online presence is a must for businesses today, download the PDF with the link at the top of the page, and if you agree you too need to get online, send me an email and lets get you online!
